Kathleen received her B.S. in Psychology from Fordham University and her M.S. in Conservation Biology from the University of Minnesota (1996). She conducted her Master's research in Huai Kha Khaeng/Thung Yai wildlife sanctuaries in Thailand assessing the status and distribution of small carnivores. Her research also investigated the use of camera trapping as a verification of tiger pugmark identification in Royal Chitwan National Park, Nepal. Upon graduating from the U. of MN, she accepted a position at the Smithsonian Institution (SI) working as Program Specialist to both Dr. Thomas Lovejoy, then Counselor to the Secretary for Biodiversity and Environmental Affairs, and the SI's Institute for Conservation Biology. She also developed and coordinated the Smithsonian graduate level course, Biodiversity and Wildlife Conservation, offered each fall at The Johns Hopkins University.
After three years, Kathleen left the SI in 2000 to take the position as Program Manager for the WCS Global Carnivore Program (GCP). This was a return to WCS, where she had previously administered the Research Fellowship Program in 1991. Other administrative and management experience has included a role assisting the Director of Graduate Studies of the Conservation Biology graduate program at U. of MN and 10 years experience working in theatre/dance arts and production in the city of New York. In 2001, Kathleen's WCS responsibilities grew with a new position, Program Manager for the Science and Exploration Program, of which the Global Carnivore Program (GCP) is one part. In 2003, she additionally took the role of Coordinator for the GCP Jaguar Conservation Program.
